Alexandrian Library

Bibliotheca Alexandrina: A Beacon of Culture and Architectural Wonder Standing on the shores of the Mediterranean, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is much more than a library; it is a vast cultural complex that pays homage to the ancient Great Library of Alexandria. Opened in 2002, its striking sun-disk design and state-of-the-art facilities have made it a symbol of Egypt’s enduring dedication to knowledge. For Etro Tours guests, it is a must-visit destination that bridges the gap between ancient history and futuristic vision. A Modern Engineering Marvel: The library's main reading room is housed under a tilting sun-shaped roof made of glass and aluminum, designed to allow natural light while protecting the books. The exterior walls are carved with characters from 120 different scripts, representing the diversity of human language and the library's mission to be a "window of the world on Egypt." Key Highlights of Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Alexandria): The Main Reading Area: The largest open-shelf reading room in the world, cascading over seven levels under the majestic roof.
